Ian Harper

Accredited Family Law Specialist
After graduating in Arts from Sydney University and graduating in Law from the University of NSW, Ian was admitted as a solicitor and barrister of the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia in 1977.

From 1989 Ian specialised in Family Law and was recognised for his expertise when he became an Accredited Specialist in Family Law in 1996.

Over the years Ian developed a reputation in the profession for his ability and common sense approach to Family Law.

Recognising the emotional burden and financial costs that comes with drawn out Court proceedings, Ian focuses on assisting his client to achieve an early and best possible solution for settlement of his client’s disputes. In those cases that require a Court decision his considerable experience ensures that his clients are well represented.

In 2006 Ian obtained the qualifications to practice as a Family Law Mediator and as a Collaborative Lawyer to provided additional methods to assist parties to work through their issues.

After working in firms in Windsor, Blacktown and Parramatta, Ian set up his own practice as a family law specialist in October 2000. As a sole practitioner each client has the expertise of a specialist throughout their matter.

Ian is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, a member of the Law Society of NSW and a member of the Australian Family Law Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators, and is a member of Collaborative Professionals NSW.

Stephanie Harper

Office Manager/Secretary
Stephanie is a dedicated member of our firm having joined us in November 2001 as a junior secretary and subsequently completed a traineeship in Certificate III in Business (Legal Administration). Stephanie has also completed the Law Society of NSW Legal Secretary Conveyancing Course in 2007 and the Law Cover Risk Management Education Program in 2008 and becoming the office manager for the firm.

Stephanie has gained extensive experience and understanding of the legal process in relation to family law and de facto matters. Stephanie grew up in the Hawkesbury area and prior to commencing employment with our firm gained experience working in customer service for various local companies.

Stephanie’s supports all the staff at Ian Harper & Co in all areas including overseeing the running of the office, file management, legal research, assisting solicitors with settlement, overseeing the administration function of the firm, general secretarial work and training new support staff of the firm.

Amber Thomas

Secretary
Amber joined our firm in April 2008 and has completed a traineeship in Certificate III in Business (Legal Administration). Amber’s duties vary from reception to providing secretarial support to all our staff members.

Amber is the first point of contact and is happy to help you with your general enquiries and making appointments.

Amber grew up in the Hawkesbury area and prior to joining us has worked in various fields including hairdressing, child care and customer service.

Mary Gerges

Account Manager
Mary has been the firm’s bookkeeper since August 2007. Mary graduated TAFE with an Advanced Diploma of Accounting with Distinction. Mary is responsible for the day to day running and management of our accounts department and will assist you with any enquiries regarding your account.

Mary enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading her favourite books and novels; she also loves her music and dancing.

Mary speaks three languages: English, French and Arabic.
